STATEMENT

My paintings explore the way our eyes transform a silhouette into a three-dimensional presence.  A flat black shape becomes a muscular, solid form that moves in space.  The form, defined by its edges, interacts with the boundaries of the canvas.   My paintings refer to the inner life of objects.  They investigate how an object inhabits the canvas.  I distill impressions of nature and architecture into transcendent, archetypal shapes.

BIOGRAPHY

I grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  After two years of college in rural Minnesota, I lived for one year in Minneapolis, then returned to Boston to go to art school.  After many years there, living in artists lofts and painting, I moved to Nancy, France.  A year in France was followed by eleven years in Germany, during which I exhibited my work in Germany and in London, England.  I now live in Houston, Texas.
